The Not-exactly-strawberry moon
There's nothing major to harvest here in the Southern Hemisphere winter, so I can't find an appropriate substitution for 'Strawberry Moon.' But, it's still a pretty, full moon.
The 'moon' setting on my camera gave me 5 different colors to use to capture the moon.

I had to smile when Hubby pointed out this bench in the Dugald MacKenzie Rose Garden in Palmerston North. With a bit of lunch, one could spend the whole day there!

shadowy cliffside
As beautiful as this cliffside is so see, it is easily washed away by the tide. Actually, most of the seaside places we visit in Taranaki have warning signs that the cliffs are prone to crumble. When I took this photo, I was wondering how long it would be before that house would have to be moved.

first of fringe festival shots
Each year, there are two garden festivals that take place on the first two weekends in October and the week in between. During those 9 days, you can visit the gardens that are associated with the festivals and enjoy the wonderful spring blossoms.
About 10 years ago, the original festival, apparently, decided that some gardens weren't good enough and rejected their entries. Two of these rejected gardeners decided to start their own festival and that's how the Taranaki Fringe Garden Festival was born.
We think the Fringe Festival seems to embody the original reason for the festival--the gardens--while the original one seems to be more interested in making money. So, we patronize the Fringe Festival each year and this year we found some amazing places!

Forgotten World Highway - State Highway 43
Last weekend we took highway 3 up the coast and came back by highway 43. Here's a map to prove that it's an actual part of the NZ roadway :)
Highway 43 is called the Forgotten World Highway. Click here if you want to know more. It has some wonderful scenery along the way, even though some of the road is not paved.
Heavy rains cause slips where supporting soil falls away from the road.
Escaped farm animals are a common sight.
Hobbit's Hole built in 1936. The floor of the tunnel was lowered in 1985 to allow trucks through.
