south island coast

It might be because I was so far from any ocean before I moved,
but I am fascinated with the water and the coastline here no matter
what part of the country I'm in.

at the beach

Here are some coastal images for my northern hemisphere friends who
might need a little warm-me-up :)

skies and water

The coast of New Zealand (all 14,000 km or 8700 miles of it) is gorgeous and I never cease to be amazed every time I see it. Most of these were taken by Hubby.

South Island sights

Once I get out of the farmland of Taranaki, I am charmed by the historic buildings and scenes of the rest of New Zealand, especially in the South Island. These are some more of the sights that grabbed my attention while we were there. Some of the photos are just drive-by's out the car window but I hope you enjoy seeing what I saw :)

Drops on a spider web

Hubby is a great spotter for photos for me and he pointed out this
rain-filled web that I would have missed.

south island scenery

These are some scenes I snapped as we drove the scenic route around Southland.

I'm still surprised when I see black swans in the ocean.

This is a picture from the bottom of Baldwin Street, the steepest residential street in the world. The white car most of the way up had to come back down to the jeers of the onlookers.

On the other hand, we were cheered as we made it to the top of the street. I guess the residents are used to tourists trying to get up the hill.
At the top is this lovely monochrome mural of the street.

And, of course, the view from the top.
