st hilda in the wood
but we didn't find it.
When we got home, we found we should have gone just a few more kms
down the road. So, we took another trip and found it this time!
We couldn't decide if this was an artsy house or just containers
put together. Either way, it works!
We found the warning sign at the beginning was
useful at about the 40km mark!
The road followed the Waitotara River all the way down the road and beyond.
I have no idea what this structure in the river is.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd be glad to hear them.
We finally arrived at St Hilda in the Wood Church.
A lady at the farmhouse across the road saw us and let us inside.
I didn't realize Hubby and I were reflected in the mirror in the center of the organ!
Obviously, 114 years ago, there were many more farmers in the area than there are now. Finding many trees like this poplar windbreak, surrounding a house that is no longer there, I have to wonder about the houses and lives so far away from 'the city'.
