skeletons
As many of you know, we moved into a rental home that was a family homestead
for many years. The lady of the house loved her flowers, but the garden has been
unattended for a couple of years.
As I was cleaning out yet another flower bed, trying to get rid of dead leaves,
I ran across these awesome skeletal leaves!
I couldn't help but crop some just to see the designs that are left.

paekakariki hill lookout, Wellington
On an overnight road trip we stopped here on the Kapiti Coast. That's Kapiti Island out there, a predator-free bird sanctuary. You have to wade in the water to visit to make sure it stays that way.
Always a bit of graffiti around.
The road is so close to the water that, sometimes, it has to be closed. There is a new road in the works.

color, color everywhere
The garden is awakening and I get excited to see all the colors, even on the ground.
Kowhai (ko-fie) is the Maori word for 'yellow' and, thus, what we call the tree.

a few more signs
We see signs like this on the backroads a lot.
It sounds Australian but....just say it out loud 'Didjabringabeeralong'.
It's hard to understand how visitors can come to such a beautiful place and leave a need for this sign.
Maybe it's prettier on the inside.
Shampoo directions.

patea dam boat launch
The journey to the dam is always interesting with the wildlife and scenery
along the winding dirt roads. I include this map so you can see how far
from the ocean it is among the hills of South Taranaki.
The thing I find most interesting is the parking lot/boat launch at the dam.
It is covered with seashells! When I google about the shells, the first entry is my 2015
post on the same place, but no other discussion of them. I guess the volcanic activity
on the north island has something to do with it. But it still boggles my mind!
I imagine I will always be excited when we visit this place :)
