Te Rewa Rewa Bridge

Since there was so much interest in this bridge, I thought I'd show you more of it. In looking through my posts on this blog, it seems I have posted photos eight other times starting in 2010 when it was just finished!

Like most folk in the area, I thought it was just a cool bridge that looked like whale bones, but upon closer inspection, I have found that it was built on sacred Maori land and the design was to capture the idea of the prevailing west wind and to honor those that have gone before. Te Rewa Rewa bridge in New Plymouth

This wonderful piece of architecture is part of the Coastal Walkway along the ocean in New Plymouth. 

The bridge was placed so that this is the view you get on a sunny day as you come around the last curve toward the bridge. Pretty spectacular, I think!

This is Te Rewa Rewa pedestrian bridge in New Plymouth. It's designed on fish bones or whale bones--take your pick. It's the newest part of the coastal walkway along the Tasman sea in Taranaki, connecting New Plymouth to several smaller towns along the coastline. Te Rewa Rewa Bridge

This is the latest completed portion of a walkway that links the town of New Plymouth with the suburb of Bell Block. It is a whale skeleton or a wave, whichever you prefer. Click here for a map of the current walkway.

This is the view as you walk from Bell Block to New Plymouth. I'm glad they though ahead enough to have a wonderful view of Mt. Taranaki at the end of the bridge.
