11/24/15

east end beach

While waiting for Hubby to get a haircut, I wandered down to the sea to see what there was to see.

This greater black-back gull dropped several shellfish onto the beach until they broke open.

At one point, another gull tried to steal the meal, but was quite unsuccessful.

after the rain

We had some really stormy weather the last few days. Our area wasn't as affected as others but I was still glad to see the rain stop and the sun peek out occasionally today.

same birds, different view

I'm certainly not complaining about the beautiful blue sky and the sea gulls that entertain us at the beach, but there's not a lot of variety when it comes to shore birds here in Taranaki.  So, I thought I'd share a different perspective of them. If you notice, a couple of them are keeping an eye on me, too!

sunny yellow pom poms

I don't know what this flower is but it definitely caught my eye at Hollard Gardens the other day. Any help with identification will be appreciated.

colors of the sky

Last evening, Hubby went tearing out the door with the camera. He went to the end of the driveway and came back with this shot and several more like it. I think we're going to like it here.

misty morning

Hubby snapped this shot across the back paddock the other morning.

foamy waters under cloudy sky

I always enjoy walking along the ocean, no matter the weather.

friendly ducklings

Since these little ones live on a pond next to a primary school, I thought they'd be afraid of people with so many kids around. But, nope, they weren't afraid at all as Hubby dropped bread pieces between his boots and they scurried in to eat.

Gulls stop for a drink

These gulls are grabbing a drink of water from a river that runs across the beach to the ocean.
