Smile
We drive by this building now and then and, each time, it make me smile.
It's not because it's a registered historic place--because it's not.
I smile because the owner had enough pride in the former Pihama Post Office to paint it and
keep it looking classy beside the road.

slice of heaven for sale
The town of Toko was established in the 1890's and was a bustling village at one time (click here for a photo of the railway station opening) before the railway station, saw mill and dairy factory closed.
Nowadays, the population is just over 1,000 and is just a wide spot in the road on the way to somewhere else.
I imagine that, at one time, it was truly a little slice of heaven with its rolling hills and open skies.
Being on the main road, Benzika's gas petrol station was probably the place where
people stopped for a bit of gossip now and then.

There is still mail pick-up once a day at 10:30am, Monday - Friday.
Toko is located on State Highway 43. the Forgotten World Highway, aptly named, I'd say.

A nice surprise
I bought a 2-inch square pot of a Jelly Bean Plant in the early part of
spring and it seems to be happy.
While photographing it for this blog post, I noticed the symmetry of the 'beans' and that
made me smile because I like the world organized.
Then, while walking around the yard garden, I noticed the hebe bushes have the same symmetry.
And the smiles continue!

National alpaca day
Hubby brought it to my attention that last Sunday was National Alpaca Day so we went
out to hug a few along with some fun photos.

Hubby pointed out this 'garden' over the weekend. He is adamant that
the conversation went like this:
Wife: You need to mow the lawn.
Husband: I'll take care of it.

Details
I put this photo on my desktop and realized that I could see the fantail's beak
along with the bug it was after. So, I edited it a bit and was surprised
to see its tongue along with all the other bugs it could have chosen!
As Bob Ross would say, it's a happy accident!

A few New Plymouth sights
These photos are a slice of New Plymouth, the largest city in Taranaki.
The murals are seen on the underpass walkway to the coastline.
One of the clever warnings on the electrical boxes.
A petrel among the gulls on a roof.
Hubby loves feeding his eely buddies.
While he was feeding the eels, a little girl pointed out the baby birds in a hole in the wall.
They possible belong to these pigeons.
The walkway follows the Huatoki Stream to the sea. If you look closely, you can see
a white dot on a rock in the middle of the photo.
This is the dot! A crab hiding in a hole in the rock.
This was one of the awesome formations at Back Beach.
I really like this shot that I took through one of the openings.
Sadly, it wasn't long after the above photos that a storm destroyed them.

I know I've posted this before, but I was looking through my archives and
found this shot. After some lunch and feeding the gulls, I was trying to take a shot out the car
window when this seagull on the hood bonnet leaned over and photobombed me It made me smile
again so I thought I'd share it again.

Hurray!
I got to see the mountain at sunset for the first time in ages! The weather was rainy even before we got the backlash from Hurricane Debbie.
