NZ kingfishers

I was so excited to see this pair in the garden today!
The female is on the left with the pink lower beak and the
male is on the right with the totally black beak.

gorgeous visitors

I usually only see one of these beauties at a time,
seldom two, but today was three out the window!

Kingfisher

I think this little guy hunts in the river behind our house and comes
to our garden to chill out and watch the other birds. This photo
was taken through the window and he's just a few feet away.

kingfisher

This guy hangs around our area and I see him now and then on the wires. He was sitting on Hubby's weeping cherry tree when I looked out the window. I got his picture through the window (first 2 shots) and then he flew around and came back to land on the fencepost in the last shot.

surprise in the flax

As Hubby and I were resting and enjoying the view at Nowell's Lakes, I noticed something fluttering in the flax quite a distance away. Being the impulsive photographer that I am, I zoomed in on the area and took a shot. Whatever it was jumped around and flitted and I took a few more quick shots--just in case it was something interesting.

Much to my great delight, it was this kingfisher that I had captured.

He then landed on the picnic tables and posed for me. OK, maybe he's not posing for me, but I had the chance to get some great shots.

kingfisher

As Hubby and I were watching the waves, this kingfisher flew in and had a look around.
