Most photos that you find of Taranaki include Mt Taranaki/Mt Egmont.
But I think the Pouakai Ranges that are connected to it to the north are just as beautiful.

kitesurfing
After several days of wind and storm around the country, we went to the coast, hoping to find some huge waves. We didn't find waves, but we found kitesurfers.
I'm not much of an 'action' shooter, but I did enjoy catching the bits of bright color against the moody sky and dark, churned water.

from a bygone era
Hubby is quite happy to stop, back up, or turn around for me to shoot something when we are out riding around; but today was the first time he honestly looked confused when I told I wanted to go back to take photos of old power poles :)
We had passed quite a few of them around the little town of Tahora--minus wires, covered in lichen and moss; so, I decided to get photos, maybe the last ones of them ever.
They were just placed here and there except those along the roadside--not at all, in the straight lines we see today--but I thought they had a lot of personality, each one a little different. Sepia seemed appropriate.

The last of the Marlborough Sounds
I really enjoyed the plane trip that Hubby organized for me and MIL while
we were in the south island.
At the top of the 'runway' for takeoff, half way through the trip.
The stripe is where we just took off from (above).

more randomness
The colorful hay bales show a donation to different causes--pink is breast cancer,
blue is prostate cancer, purple is Starship Children's Hospital, yellow childhood cancer.
Green is usual color.

1890 Shipping Marker at Opunake Beach
You have to drive by this marker to get to the beach below, and each time, I marvel at its simplicity. I would love to have seen this marker being used.

Summer memories
I wanted to share this lipstick flower (Aeschynanthus) that was among seedlings that I
bought just to fill in some spaces in my garden.
It did the job very well, blooming for months and is still blooming now.
From the top, it doesn't impress me with the tiny flowers--I like blooms
big enough to photograph in macro.
But, from another angle, they look like miniature orchids!
I was a bit under the weather this week, so I did this
mosaic of my summer flowers.

south island roadside scenery
We found some cute, funny stuff along the road.
There were many stages of logging all along the roads we travelled.
Of course, living on an island means very interesting formations.
I thought this division of color next to the ocean was striking.
We saw several of these little railroad 'stations' that looked well-kept. I will have to do some research on them.
