a few more signs

We see signs like this on the backroads a lot.

It sounds Australian but....just say it out loud 'Didjabringabeeralong'.

It's hard to understand how visitors can come to such a beautiful place and leave a need for this sign.

Maybe it's prettier on the inside.

Shampoo directions.

from a bygone era

Hubby is quite happy to stop, back up, or turn around for me to shoot something when we are out riding around; but today was the first time he honestly looked confused when I told I wanted to go back to take photos of old power poles :)

We had passed quite a few of them around the little town of Tahora--minus wires, covered in lichen and moss; so, I decided to get photos, maybe the last ones of them ever.

They were just placed here and there except those along the roadside--not at all, in the straight lines we see today--but I thought they had a lot of personality, each one a little different. Sepia seemed appropriate.

more randomness

The colorful hay bales show a donation to different causes--pink is breast cancer,
blue is prostate cancer, purple is Starship Children's Hospital, yellow childhood cancer.
Green is usual color.

I think this is a white admiral

south island roadside scenery

We found some cute, funny stuff along the road.

There were many stages of logging all along the roads we travelled.

Of course, living on an island means very interesting formations.

I thought this division of color next to the ocean was striking.

We saw several of these little railroad 'stations' that looked well-kept. I will have to do some research on them.

another Taranaki beach

Hubby took me to Sandy Bay Beach in Taranaki last weekend since we hadn't been there for a while. I didn't feel like walking down the steep, sandy slope, so we sat on the bench at the top of the walkway.

As we sat there, I took photos and we reminisced about the last time we were there, which was back in 2012. I remembered having to walk across rocks to get down the beach where there were oystercatchers nesting at the far end and that's when Hubby mentioned that it looked like sand had moved up the beach and covered everything.

So, when we got home, I looked at our past photos and found the same scene from the same place, 2014.

It's amazing what nature can do in just a few years.

I took a photo of the grass and noticed the two dots on the rock in the distance.

Turns out they were Mollyhawks.

Three more black dots in the sand...

turned out to be pied oystercatchers.

I do like my camera and taking photos.  Can you tell?!

Okere Falls

Hubby finds the best stuff to see when he plans our holidays!
One stop was at Okere Falls Scenic Reserve which is a small but gorgeous place.

There were ferns of all kinds growing along the walkways.

It seemed like forever, but I did make it to the bottom of Hinemoa's Steps! Click here for her story.

The roar of the water was fantastic to hear.

The following photos are Hubby's that he took at the Trout Pool Falls.
