scenes from a beach
Yesterday was a wonderfully warm almost-spring day and we took a walk at Ngamotu Beach in New Plymouth.

wild birds
The black-backed gulls looked like they were half buried in the sand but were just resting. The terns were quite photogenic. These were taken at Opunake Beach.
These kereru, or wood pigeons, are usually loners, but they are not immune to spring's call.

visiting seal
I was looking for birds to photograph and some movement in the viewing screen caught my eye. This little guy was looking for a sunny rock. We saw him again farther down the beach but he blended in too well with the rocks for a good picture.

Patea on a windy day
We've had some horrific winds for the last few weeks and they certainly have affected the water in the Tasman Sea.
The first two photos were taken from the lookout at the Patea River while black sand pelted Hubby and me. The wind blew the camera so much I had to straighten almost all the photos but the view was still incredible.
When we went down to the coastline, the sand was blowing everywhere.
The remains of a pier seemed to be in another world with low tide.

foamy waters
I never get tired of seeing the waves leave a layer of foam on the beach. I think the rocks give the foam a distinct beauty.
As we walked around the coastline, Hubby pointed out this sign that had fallen down the bank. It says, 'Caution! These cliffs have crumbling edges. Please keep clear.' I guess they were right.
