What a great looking rock formation. Of course there is a story to go along with it.
A great picture of Split Rock and our Ocean! I followed the link and read both versions of how it came about. I'm sure the scientific version is correct and I kind of understand it right at this moment -- but the Maori legend is what I will remember for much longer.
Stories like this make travel a whole lot of fun. It's a nice way to get to know cultures too.
Whether Split Apple Rock was a result of ice wedging or whether it was burst open, it sure is a great sight to see and photograph.
(The water looks beautiful, too) :)

Beautiful place with interesting history, both from a scientific point of view and as a traditional Maori legend. But I have to say that the Maori legend is so much more exciting :)
