cape reinga lighthouse and why I don't worry

Some of you wonderful bloggy folk have wondered why I don't put watermarks on my photos so they don't get stolen. Well, that's just my choice and there are several reasons why:
1. I don't post anything that I would get upset about if someone 'borrowed' it.  I mean, there is always a way to get a photo off the internet--even if you don't allow right-click :)
2. I don't want to take away from the photo by plastering my name across it.
3. The photos I post are awful to steal! I resize them in Photoscape  down to about 900px on the long side. That makes it faster to upload, good to view on your monitor  and pretty crappy resolution if you try to make it bigger.

Like your photo of the lighthouse. Never seen one like this. Good eye and composition.

Nice shot! Looks good in B & W. Yes, I always post low-res photos on my blog, but I do watermark them too. Doesn't prevent photo stealing, but that way I can tell if someone copies them.

Hi Betty Like you I do not put a copyright on my shots. I am not a professional and if people want one of my photographs then I am honored. I dislike the coperight righ tovet the middle of the photograph as it ALaWYS spoils the shot and in my opinion is not worth spending much time looking at as the coperight is the most dominant feature and the shots secondary. I love the B & W lighthouse. Lighthouses are always wonderful structures to .capture

I love lighthouses! Soon I'm going to travel on my small favourite vacation island in the north of Germany - there you find five of them!

A strange little lighthouse but beautifully photographed in black and white. I don't bother with watermarks either; I take photos for fun, not money.

An excellent photo of The lighthouse Betty. It has been many years since we visited The Cape. I totally agreed with all your reasons for not watermarking your photos. I always resize any pics I put up, quicker for me and the other bloggers

I've only been in one lighthouse before, it was an interesting experience. It was so narrow inside!

This lighthouse is such an interesting, squat design. Like a time capsule.

Beautiful pic and interesting comments re watermarks and resizing etc. I've had the same comments and had thought maybe I'd think about them, but have been too lazy (and not sure why I cared). Glad to hear your opinions.

Also loved the pitcher plants ... we have a stand of similar plants on the Oregon Coast ...the only place they grow on the coast, nobody knows where they came from.

Love this photo, with all the great detail.

I agree with you about watermarks - they tend to spoil the photographic effect.

Agree that copyright signs spoil shots. Anyway, good shot of the lighthouse.
