I don't know that I've ever heard of one of these. I like the unique bluish/black feathers. I like the first shot where you caught it in step. Lovely WBW post!
A relative of our Purple Gallinule here in Florida. A few escaped from an exhibit several years ago and we now have a small population of our own Pukekos in the state.

Lovely WBW post!
Cool bird, love those funny looking feet. Great shots!
Great photos. I grew up with the name pukeko and still forget and call the Purple Swamphen by that name.
never seen these kind of birds here :)

What an interesting-looking bird! Being from the Midwest (U.S.), it reminds me of a chicken at first glance with extra large feet!
I'm joining in on this meme today, from seeing your post. :-)
Very fun cool looking bird, those big feet made me smile...strutting it stuff~
I was going to say maybe about what Wally in the comment above knew for sure....they do look alike...I love seeing "ours"...as I know you do yours..
These are great birds - I remember seeing them on my one and only (short) trip to NZ.
Thanks for linking to WBW. I was in Oman all last week, hence the slow reply!
