napier-art deco rebuild

In 1931, Napier, in Hawke's Bay, was hit with a 7.8 earthquake that flattened the city. It was rebuilt in the style of 1920's art deco. Each year, on the third weekend in February, they celebrate with Art Deco Weekend, where you can join one of the many walking tours of the city.

What a cool and brave thing that was for the city to come together and make something special out of the ruins. I would love to take that walking tour (or even just take pictures on any old day) I love this style!

WOW outside Miami the largest collection of Art Deco buildings. Must be interesting to see them all, and thanks for showing a little part.

I like it.

I would go to Thorpe's coffee house -it looks cozy inside, and the front is very inviting!
