I thought our weather had messed up the monarchs' breeding patterns until I did a little research and found out that there are several generations and not all of them migrate. I was absolutely astounded to find these hanging in a sunny spot on trees in a park in Hawera.

Oh my gosh, I have never seen so many butterflies clustered together like that, even having gone to a butterfly garden -- so cool!
Here is my SATURDAY SNAPSHOT post.
Beautiful photos! I love Monarchs...and I was just talking about them with my daughter the other day, because of a picture book by Leo Politi, called The Butterflies Come. It featured the Monarchs that descended in Monterey, CA.
Thanks for sharing...and here's MY SATURDAY SNAPSHOT POST
As others have already said, WOW! I've never seen so many butterflies in one spot. That is beautiful. My Snapshot is at http://goo.gl/hfGhV
Truly amazing! I have never encountered so many butterflies at once (unless it was in a butterfly house). Wonderful!
Wow! I always thought they were kind of solitary creatures, but it looks like they're having a party! :-)
These photos are amazing. I've been so interested in butterflies this Spring. I read a book about the migration! Sweet hugs!
My goodness. What a fabulous sight! I've never ever seen so many butterflies in one place before.
