sunrise in the country
As I've said many times, I don't do mornings (somebody has to keep the world going while morning people sleep!). Hubby took this shot one foggy morning for me.

anniversary walk
Today marks our 7th anniversary for Hubby and me. We checked the tides and decided to have an adventure--we went out to see the Three Sisters, even though there are only two standing. I love walking along the ocean and seeing what nature has created.

white-faced herons
These guys --not these two specific ones, but earlier ones--self-introduced the species to New Zealand in the 1940's. They apparently liked it a lot and decided to stay. These guys--yes, these two specifically, no doubt a breeding pair--visit the water trough behind the house regularly. They probably live near the stream that runs behind the pasture.
Not sure what this one is looking at!

one lane tunnel
This is part of the highway system in NZ. Really, it is. It's on State Highway 3. The government talks about changing it somehow but it hasn't happened yet. There are still many one-lane bridges around and it makes me feel very rural and happy when we cross them.
This is how one-lane tunnels and bridges work in NZ. The driver going the direction of the black, bigger arrow has the right of way; the driver going the other way usually has a better view of the bridge/tunnel and oncoming traffic.
