We spent a night in jail!

Our last night in Christchurch was spent in the Jailhouse Accommodations at the locally converted jail. Click here for their website.

Being a backpackers' hostel, I expected it to be loud but the 'inmates', even though most of them were pretty young, were well-behaved and respectful. That's our room with the bunk beds!

What an interesting place to spend the night - as long as you're free to leave in the morning, of course.

I bet that was an experience! I dread to think what the previous 'guests' had been up to in order to spend time there.

The place looks pretty neat. Nice clicks!

I hope the food was better than prison quality. Did they have a regular Motel Reception to pay your bill & hand in the room keys or did you have to see a Parole Officer before you could leave.

What an interesting idea to convert the prison, although the rooms were tiny.

The photos look amazing, I'm not sure I'd want to spend the night in a former prison, I may be scared of not being able to leave. What an experience though.

Amazing that housing is in a jail. I liked the series very much.

Well that would have been an experience and a half!
