Clifftop Garden - Opunake

A few days ago, Hubby suggested we go to the Clifftop Garden at Opunake Beach.
It is actually along the clifftop at Opunake Beach!

The first time we were there was in 2014, according to my archives. It was a rather short walk at that time, but the flowers were really pretty and well tended.
Over the years, we have gone back and, each time, the garden was longer
and more gorgeous than the last.

Join us at My Corner of the World each Wednesday!

Opunake garden walk

It had been a while since we visited the garden walk in Opunake and they have made
some interesting additions.   I blogged about it here when we discovered it.

There is now a small library that invites you to take a book or leave a book or just peruse a
magazine while you sit on one of the new benches and enjoy the garden.

There was still some color to be seen even though we are well into autumn.

They gussied up the water fountain for people and pets.

To get water for your pet, you life the wooden dog's hind leg!

Even the spent flowers retained a bit of beauty.

Someone left this 'bump in the night' rock on a fencepost.

This lovely garden is tended by volunteers and has some wonderful colors during the year. I will be sure to visit next summer and share the colors of the place. I plan to donate some bulbs and seeds before then.

Cliff Top Garden, Opunake

The weather was stunning this weekend and we went for a drive to Opunake beach. It seems that there was a surfing event going on (Taranaki has some great surf beaches, click here) so we went up to the lookout to watch. The little dots in the photo below are surfers waiting for a wave.

I was thinking about walking down the walkway when I noticed a new red sign. Of course, we had to see what this garden was about...

Not knowing what to expect, we started down the path and caught a glimpse of color.

And we were stunned by the beauty of this place that is hidden from all sides.

One of the volunteers was cutting grass as we came back to the car. It seems that he started the garden about 18 months ago with his own plants. Since then, the district has contributed plants to the project and volunteers keep it looking nice.

Along the way, there were lovely views of the ocean.
