A long way for a sausage, part one

Over the weekend, we drove about 2 hours to find a new business that sold German sausages. Yes, sometimes, you have to make a big effort if you want something special!
The weather wasn't great, but, of course, I took photos anyway.

These little hills are called 'beehives'. They are formations from volcanic activity.

There was no place to get a good photo of this house, but it grabs my attention every time we go past with it's interesting paint job.

These houses along the river were originally summer houses but some are
occupied year round.

I usually have to wait until we get high up the mountains before I see wild goats on the roadside, but they were much lower this time. I guess it's because there are/were doing some major works in two places up high and scared them off.

This WAS the road through the Awakino tunnel that was part of the newest roadworks.

This is the tunnel as you drive by it now.

Lovely series of road photos. Hope the sausages worked well as an excuse for the drive.

What a beautiful drive -
That house looks like they just used the end of each paint bucket - it is very unique ;-)
