These are sculptures of Moa, a flightless bird found only in New Zealand,
that went extinct in the mid 15th century.
We found the sculptures in Apiti.

I hate the word extinct! I just read that kolas are on the endangered list. Say it isn't so.
I'll have to check those out next time I"m down that way.

The Moa looks like it's related to the Cassowary. I wonder....
They look so majestic. Mao's will live on through these sculptures.

These are beautiful sculptures. Extinct is forever no more. So sad that they are no longer around.

What a pity these magnificent birds went extinct when they did, which is relatively rece ntly, considering... At least we have the artifacts and the art!

The moa bird resembles an ostrich, but its head and neck are more reminiscent of a dinosaur?
The sculptures are beautiful and impressive. I never heard of Moa before so thanks for sharing.
