ponga up close

In the middle of the photo below is what's left of a ponga (punga, silver fern) tree 
that once was the only tree in the front garden. I have lots of photos of the tops and 
furled fronds of these beauties, but not a whole tree so I refer you to this photo on the TePapa website.


Each frond has left its own mark on the trunk and lichen has made
some harder to see.





I don't know about you, but I think nature is pretty cool, even in death.

What an unusual tree, but I am sorry your tree died. I can understand your reluctance to remove it from your yard. Fascinating photos.
