surprises at the bach in Anakiwa

The last of the mimosa tree blooms.

I got excited to see this lovely quail come out of the bushes and hop up on the chair
in the garden! It was checking to see if it was safe for the babies to come out. I so enjoyed
seeing them several times.

I think this is a juvenile tui.

And imagine my surprise to see my first weka! I hurriedly took this
photo thinking it might be my only chance...

but it seems he was not afraid of humans and Hubby took several more of
it, getting quite close.

I just had to include one more adult shot, they are so gorgeous!

Your pictures make me travel to the other end of the world. The flora and fauna are so different from what I see everyday. Gorgeous pictures, Betty!

The babies are cute but do you know the name of that pink flower in your first 2 photos

The flowers of the mimosa tree looks similar to those of the wild mimosa grass.

How I love families of quail! We have several families each year in the backyard, and we watch the babies following the parents. They are delightful!
