Historic remains in Otago

Gold mining in the Otago region started in 1852, but didn't last long. There are, however, many remnants and other sights from the past.

The original one-storey wooden and canvas building on this site opened in 1863 as the Dunstan Hotel. In 1899 its replacement was a grand double-storied building – the first of its kind in Central Otago.  Click here for more info.
The top right shot below is probably a seal hunter's hut.
The Commercial Stables in Murchison was constructed at the end of the nineteenth century. Click here for more information.

What a fascinating place! My favorite building is the last one on the bottom.

Many of your photos remind me of home in Colorado. The landscape is much the same in these towns. I particularly like the photo of the mine with the ore car! Have a grand day!

Lovely remnants of history, i know NZ is good in preserving those sites for tourists. Just like what they did in Arrowtown, it was an awesome place which i want to live in if i am in NZ.
