the beach at Christmas

Every year, Hubby takes me to the beach on Christmas Day. This year we went to Patea, which was a busy port in it's day.

At first glance, I thought these folks had put soap in the water to simulate snow! But, according to Hubby, in this weather, the seaweed gets beaten to a pulp (literally) by the tide and the air bubbles that make the foam on the waves cling to it as it's blown around.

The black sand from the beach gets blown everywhere.

I sure do miss walking on beaches like those. The island we live on is in Puget sound so we don't have the surf of an ocean beach.

Always love a beach. the sea/ocean water looks quite wild when you were there.
I really like the New Zealand Christmas Tree too.

Thanks for visiting my blog. MB

I surely wouldn't mind a trip to the beach on Christmas Day! I am not so keen on snow either. :)

Hope your holiday has been wonderful so far and thanks for your greetings on my blog.

What a beautiful beach. I'm not familiar with Patea. I will have to look it up. May your New Year 2011 be bright and blessed with God's richest blessings for you and yours.

Amazing captures of a beautiful place! I like those crashing waters. I can almost hear their raging sounds. The grassy beach too is very nice.

I'm a beach bum at heart. I've never seen black sand. Interesting.

Beautiful beach scenes. I love all the driftwood, would like to have some pieces in my backyard and garden. I wish you and your family a very healthy and happy New Year.

Never seen black beach sand before (that I can remember!) - I do have to admit to preferring golden sands, though!

I love that you opt right out of the usual Christmas "thing" and nip off to a new beach each time. What a wonderful way to enjoy the day!

AAAAH!!!! Yes, that driftwood has me green with envy, too!!!!
