Stewart Island

Hubby, Missy, the MIL and I took a boat ferry across Foveaux Strait, which takes about one hour from Bluff to Stewart Island. It was pretty rough and I was the only one that didn't have a technicolor yawn, if you know what I mean!
We had about 45 minutes before our nature tour started so Missy and I walked to 'town' for a quick look.

As we started to Ulva Island for our tour, this huge albatross buzzed the boat. I was so proud that Hubby got this great shot of it.

But, then more showed up.

Apparently, they think all boats are fishing boats, so they fly over all the boats looking for food. It was a magnificent sight to see them hove over our heads. For some reason, they reminded me of the flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz!

Beautiful birds, is that an Albatoss?

You must have the same kind of resistance to sea-sickness that I do -- have often been the only one not to share that fun experience that you so 'colorfully' describe. Glad your hubby recovered enough to get those good shots -- and yeah, those birds do look a little eerie/intimidating like in Oz (the storybook one).

Lovely water views, Betty! That big chess set - inviting! And birds flying so close - all beautiful experiences!
Since you were on vacation, heads up - celebrate the first year anniversary at ALL SEASONS this week (link open through Wednesday evening 7 pm - US time)!
Hope to see you there in time:)

Some awesome bird photos. The water does look a little choppy and the last image, the bird does look angry. What a nice sharp image of the bird though.

I think they are very cool birds, alot larger than our seagulls.

I'm usually the first one on the boat to get seasick. It's terrible! Love that last shot of the albatross on the water looking at you!

I've never heard the expression "technicolor yawn" before, but it's such a pleasant way of expressing an extremely UNPLEASANT event.
Great shots - hope you'll come share at http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2017/02/worship-in-beit-sahour.html
