monarchs galore

Today, I learned that these monarchs are hibernating. It's the third time (thanks to Hubby!)  I have found then gathered in King Edward Park in Hawera. Unlike those in the northern hemisphere, our monarchs just wander instead of migrating.

I never thought of New Zealand as having Monarchs. Quite unusual for me in how they behave, but I guess they managed to evolve to living in the area differently from ours. Thanks for the link and photos.

The Monarchs here have just started to arrive on their long journey and multi-generation travels from Mexico. In a couple of weeks there will be hundreds in the garden, hundreds as they continue North. Glad to visit you today.
