kereru-NZ wood pigeon and WATW

They are quite shy and sound a bit like a helicopter blade rotating when they fly overhead. Really!

This is a New Zealand wood pigeon. Its Maori name is Kereku and can weigh up to  650g (1.4 lb).

What does your world look like this week?

Handsome bird. A lot different from our European Wood Pigeon.

Beautiful and unique birds. Never seen one like it. Are they shy and hard to photograph?

It's a so lovely pigeon, this Kereku .... I'm happy to see this bird. Our pigeons have mostly grey sometimes white feathers.

I will now join your site 😊

Pigeons in Canada are not all that pretty but yours are nice.

Great colors; its Maori name souns like it was named for the sound it makes.

well there you go. We have pigeons over here but as they are introduced they are pests. Although we do have a native spinifex pigeon.
Have a great week.
