Cliff Top Garden, Opunake

The weather was stunning this weekend and we went for a drive to Opunake beach. It seems that there was a surfing event going on (Taranaki has some great surf beaches, click here) so we went up to the lookout to watch. The little dots in the photo below are surfers waiting for a wave.

I was thinking about walking down the walkway when I noticed a new red sign. Of course, we had to see what this garden was about...

Not knowing what to expect, we started down the path and caught a glimpse of color.

And we were stunned by the beauty of this place that is hidden from all sides.

One of the volunteers was cutting grass as we came back to the car. It seems that he started the garden about 18 months ago with his own plants. Since then, the district has contributed plants to the project and volunteers keep it looking nice.

Along the way, there were lovely views of the ocean.

Stunning indeed. Looks like you and I are both experiencing wonderful weather this weekend. Those who love flowers and share them with the rest of us are up there with my favourite people :)

Oh how wonderful . There was a wonderful book and movie when I was a child called 'A Secret Garden' and this reminds me of that! What a really neat thing for the volunteer to do and wonderful that the district has stepped up to help keep it up and open to the public. I love everything about this post... the idea, the beautiful weather, your wonderful pictures. Happy!!!

You captured the sites of the park so beautifully, that I can almost hear and smell the nearby beach. Blessings!

That fellow was feel good about the garden he started and that volunteers are interesting in helping maintain it. Nice shooting.

This gives me such happiness today. The ocean with its light and surfers waiting for their swells. Thank you! And I wanted to say to Sallie at Full Time Life that I am reading "A Secret Garden" again right NOW.

Cheers everyone! Susie

It's beautiful. I can almost feel how was that day in your city. I miss the scent of the ocean. I miss colours, of greens and flowers. It looks like your blog will be bringing me some nostalgia. We're turning into deep winter now and I'll only see colours again in summer or if I go visit my homecountry.

How very beautiful. So glad you took the path to the garden. Of course I love the ocean too but what a pleasure it was to see the pretty flowers as well.
