my garden has awakened!

I'm so happy to see spring colors this week.
I'm sure there will be more very soon, but for now, I share
these with you.

Whanganui from the top

The Durie Elevator was out of order so we drove to the top of the hill to the lookout where the elevator would have taken us.

These  are the views of the Whanganui River from the lookout.

Old water tower.

Kereru and WATW

Spring is in the air in my part of the world and I captured
this wood pigeon (Kereru) the other day!

Some Whanganui architecture

I get quite nostalgic when I see these older buildings and facades.

Hospital and Charitable Aid Board

Hubby thinks this is an unfinished lighthouse.

Some of these buildings remind me of the town where I grew up.

St Mary's Catholic Church, Whanganui

We took a trip to Whanganui in south Taranaki to see a few specific sights.
One of them was St Mary's with a round sanctuary.

sights of Whanganui

We went to Whanganui for a day out and to enjoy the sunshine.
As we drove around, we found some interesting things that I want to share.

This is an old Fire Brigade Sub  Station, 1925.

I have no idea what these letters on the top of a deserted industrial building mean.
Sally, I think you're right that it once said 'storage.'

Dragon's head, anyone?

kowhai and tuis

The kowhai (pronounced KO-fie) is a lovely tree native to New Zealand and
the name is the Maori word for 'yellow'.

Native birds love the trees and at Hollards yesterday, we found a
tree full of tuis.
