kowhai and tuis

The kowhai (pronounced KO-fie) is a lovely tree native to New Zealand and
the name is the Maori word for 'yellow'.

Native birds love the trees and at Hollards yesterday, we found a
tree full of tuis.

  13. It's a good thing you provided a pronunciation guide for kowhai. If I'd been given 10 chances to guess, that wouldn't have been one of them. :-)

I love the tree - and the name. Thanks for sharing, Betty!

  18. What a lovely tree - so different from anything that lives near me! Also thank you for sharing the correct pronunciation. Now I'm curious about the tuis. Is that pronounced "twees" or "too-ees"? They have lovely feather patterning.
