I never heard of anything like this before I got to NZ. There's not a lot of info on the Giant Rata on the internet but the sign (last photo) from Bushy Park explains how it uses its host tree.

Apparently, I am not as artsy as I would like to be. I play around with my photos in my editing programs and come up with some fun looks, but don't usually post them. As much as I like the look of the water tower (first shot) I have this incredible need to post the original photo, but I will do my best to resist. I guess I'm a purist at heart.

A walk along the water at New Plymouth
Hubby and I took these yesterday when we took a walk in New Plymouth.
In the photo below, you can see where the ocean has torn huge boulders from their concrete settings.
Below is lava that has instantly become part of this rock when it reached the cool ocean.
