Giant Rata at Pukeiti

 I never heard of anything like this before I got to NZ. There's not a lot of info on the Giant Rata on the internet but the sign (last photo) from Bushy Park explains how it uses its host tree.

    Fantastic - I love that first shot. We have some old trees around here, but nothing like that.

    This is a fascinating tree. I've never heard of it before and how it has a host tree and becomes hollow in the middle. Interesting.
