Oamaru

Most of the photos of Sumpter's Wharf in Oamaru find it covered in shag/cormorants. It closed to shipping in 1974 and is now a registered historic place. Click here for some history of the Wharf.

Oamaru is a small town in the South Island that you don't hear much about. unless you know there were limestone quarries there and many historic buildings built from it.

Many of the old buildings have been turned into shops.

  2. This town does have many fine Neo-classic stone buildings, and a great looking harbor. I am enjoying your series of photos.

  3. Beautiful buildings, it looks like a bit of England dropped into NZ.

  4. Great to see this place through your photos as I now will probably never have the change to travel there. Loved seeing the dolphins in the previous post. Have a great week ahead.
