On our trip to the south island, we spent three nights at
The Fern and Thistle, a lovely and historic bed and breakfast.
The owners were wonderfully hospitable and helpful.
The house was built for Peter McSkimming with bricks made down the road
at the brick factory he owned.
He also built houses for his employees nearby and the town of
Benhar was created.
Later, he changed the factory to make 'sanitary ware' and at least one of the sinks in the B & B still has the McSkimming name on it.
Join us at My Corner of the World each Wednesday!
The Fern and Thistle looks like a wonderful place to stay on your adventure. Thanks for the history of the local McSkimming industry.
ReplyDeleteThat’s the kind of unique and special lodging we would love on a getaway! We like to RV and would rather that than cookie cutter motels, but finding a special place like you did here is great.
