Te Rewa Rewa Bridge

Since there was so much interest in this bridge, I thought I'd show you more of it. In looking through my posts on this blog, it seems I have posted photos eight other times starting in 2010 when it was just finished!


Like most folk in the area, I thought it was just a cool bridge that looked like whale bones, but upon closer inspection, I have found that it was built on sacred Maori land and the design was to capture the idea of the prevailing west wind and to honor those that have gone before.     I find that bridge fascinating. It is several years now since I last visited New Plymouth - maybe it is time I visited again :)

    This is a remarkable bridge capturing both function and beauty. Fitting it was built reflecting the sensitivities of the Maori people.

    Hallo liebe Betty,
    eine sehr schöne und beeindruckende Brücke, sie zieht bestimmt viele Touristen an.

    Wahnsinn was die Menschen geleistet haben. 3 Jahre Bauzeit, der Transport und der Aufbau vor Ort war nicht einfach, vieles musste durchdacht sein, aber es hat sich gelohnt.
    Sie sieht nicht nur schön aus, sondern passt auch in die wunderschöne Landschaft.

    I like that architects are putting more emphasis on aesthetics of bridges along with its functionality.

    Te Rewa Rewa is a beautiful bridge.

    I love the pristine white used and it is in sync with the thought behind it ..... carrying message of peace and remembrance for those buried at historical Rewa Rewa Pa site.
