I visited the farm that is on the land where we rent and saw some of
their new calves. They are well cared for but I found that farming is
not a simple operation any more.
This one was born that morning.
Most can be sold when they know who the father is through
AB (artificial breeding).
I learned that some of those born on this farm were twins. If the twins are
male/female, the female is usually infertile.
They all just had their horns 'removed' that day so they
were a little less lively than usual.
But they were all adorable!

ReplyDeleteI didn't know that abuot twin calves! There are very few family farms nowadays here -- especially cattle .. they all seem to be corporate farms. Which does not thrill me.
