St Joseph's Convent, Jerusalem, NZ

Along the Whanganui River is a little town called Jerusalem where St. Joseph's Convent is situated. It was built in 1892 and has an interesting history. Click here if you are interested. 


I am neither Maori nor Catholic, so I will just leave you to see the photos. It's so refreshing to have such buildings as the church open to visitors any time.

    On the outside the church looks very much like a lot of the churches here in Canada. It's on the inside that things begin to look different. The red and yellow colours make the the building stand out.

    wow what a pretty church, it reminds me of the one of off little house on he Prarie, I used to love that show, wouldst it be lovely if life was that simple nowadays x

    First, I had no idea there was a Jerusalem NZ. Secondly, the Maori patterns in that church are really cool.

    Very interesting, the colors, the equipment, everything is completely different from the churches in Europe.

    You obviously do not have much vandalism. Here the lead gets stolen off the roof and thieves walk away with silver or pewter objects from inside.
    Your church pictures are beautifully clear.
