A while back, it was quite evident that a rabbit had first eaten and then dug up a small bush I had planted. Since there were more holes but no more casualties, I figured all was well. A few days later--and for many days after--there were no more deep holes, but many small indentions in the ground. I really didn't think about them until Hubby motioned for me to look out the window today, I had my answer to the small holes. Birdie dirt baths!
Sparrows like this kind of bath, it helps to keep acarians away. A nice collection of pics

ReplyDeleteOh I bet that felt good in the feathers!!! YAM xx
I like your photo essay on the dirt baths. I live in a very wet part of the world where the birds like water baths. I did find evidence of rabbits in my backyard this week. They must be slipping under the fence. I knew I had a family living next door in a small uncut lot but I didn't know they visited my backyard too. They come out around twilight at my front window in the wild area next door. I think they like to watch the TV show, Jeopardy, though the window, which comes on about that time. They leave before Wheel of Fortune, because my rabbits are too smart for that show.
ReplyDeleteFantastic photos !!!

I'll stick with water. Dirt baths are a bird brained idea!
