the trees of Napier

Pine trees grow amazingly fast in NZ, like these Norfolk Pines. According to this article, these trees were planted in the 1890's and are approaching the end of their lives.

I thought palm-tree lined streets were only in California or Florida.

I don't know what kind of tree this is, but it looked quite pretty against the blue sky.

  1. Norfolk Pines I think they are called. We only have a few up here but they are huge things aren't they? I quite like them :-)

  3. I never thought of trees reaching the end of their lives. Huh. I guess it makes perfect sense.

That last photo looks like what we call (in Florida) a carrot tree ... it is an invasive species there, but probably belongs to you. I think it's beautiful.

  4. Majestic pinetrees! It will look very empty when they are gone. Lets hope they have many more years left in them :)

  5. Norfolk pines are beautiful trees. It's been a long time since I've seen palm trees. Looks like you have a variety of them there.
