These cute animals watch us go by on our way to the beach. The mama cow (you can tell because she has a propane tank for an udder!) has a 'spot' that looks like the north island. The little critter on the pole is a possum (ugly, imported thing that eats native birds and plants). I'm guessing the male of the house wanted the pig mailbox--bacon is considered a necessity here in NZ!

*Edit*
Australian possums were introduced to NZ for food and fur. Since there are no native mammals in NZ, they had no predators and have since become a huge problem.
I love stuff like this. Whenever I see something like this along the roadway, I always stop to check it out.

Those are cute but why on earth would anyone import a possum?
ReplyDeleteart is certainly in the eye of the beholder!
ReplyDeleteTo answer Linda's question:
ReplyDeleteThere are no indigenous mammals on the NZ islands so these possums were imported from Australia for meat and for fur. With no natural predators, they have now become a pest and a threat to most of the wildlife .
Very unusual cow! But great fun!. I like your photos!

ReplyDeleteOkay call me strange but I think Opossums are kinda cute in a weird sort of way. - How could they possibly be a threat to wild-life (they're not that big).
