Your post reminded me of the bearded fellow with his dog we talked with on Mt. Victoria. He was a New Zealand sheep shearer, retired I think. We learned a lot from our enjoyable convsation with him. ..
We have a lot of cows and sheep here in NZ. At one point, it was said that there were 9 sheep for every person here, but that has declined to about 5 per person.
Jim, they are penned for something special, I would think shearing but it seems a bit late for that. Otherwise, they would be out on a hillside grazing.

Yes, indeed - a lotta sheep! Though I saw many last week in North Wales,UK, famed for its Welsh lamb!
