paekakariki hill lookout, Wellington

On an overnight road trip we stopped here on the Kapiti Coast. That's Kapiti Island out there, a predator-free bird sanctuary. You have to wade in the water to visit to make sure it stays that way.

Always a bit of graffiti around.

The road is so close to the water that, sometimes, it has to be closed. There is a new road in the works.

This is a graffiti artist with a sense of humor, not as bad as some. Wonderful coast road, but if sea level rises it may be closed more and more.

Oh Wellington, I had a pen pal there once. It's been a long time.
Thank you very much for the beautiful pictures, I'll be back tomorrow.

Wow that road is precariously located, but the island for birds is a wonderful thing! I love knowing about this!

So can you really wade all the way to the island? It looks like a long way. Beautiful picture.
