kowhai and tuis

The kowhai (pronounced KO-fie) is a lovely tree native to New Zealand and
the name is the Maori word for 'yellow'.

Native birds love the trees and at Hollards yesterday, we found a
tree full of tuis.

What a magnificent tree. Your Tuis look a bit like our wattle birds in Australia.

That is a stunning tree, and I have learned my first Maori word. Thank you for that. Lovely photos. I enjoyed your sunset from yesterday as well.

It's a good thing you provided a pronunciation guide for kowhai. If I'd been given 10 chances to guess, that wouldn't have been one of them. :-)

I love the tree - and the name. Thanks for sharing, Betty!

Love that you shared this. As I've never been to New Zealand, it is nice to see your photography. The kowhai blooms are such a pretty yellow. I picture that it is a fragrant bloom. :)

What a lovely tree - so different from anything that lives near me! Also thank you for sharing the correct pronunciation. Now I'm curious about the tuis. Is that pronounced "twees" or "too-ees"? They have lovely feather patterning.
