Big things and other stuff

I don't want you to get over-excited with these first photos, so try to show some restraint. These are part of the biggest accordion collection in the southern hemisphere! They are in a museum in Dargaville along with some interesting antiques and historical items.

This is a photo of the largest kauri tree in the world. Its Maori name is Tane Mahuta ('Lord of the Forest'). It takes 23 people to make a ring completely around it. Kauri takes so long to grow that it is illegal to cut any trees.

I don't know what these flowers are but, These are called ginger lily--thanks Yamini! they were in full bloom in the northern heat.

This is all that is left of the bank after a fire in the historic town of Kohukohu. They decided to leave the vault where it stood.

...am pretty sure that's Ginger Lily (Hedychium gardnerianum) and also pretty sure that's considered 'noxious' as it is not native (belongs in the Himalayas)... it IS pretty though! This was clearly a wonderful trip!!! YAM xx

Sorry, but a sad squeeze-boxer like me could get very excited with all these accordions. Why, I can even see one with a helicon bass!

This is a fantastic collection of photos. I missed the accordion museum, and LOVE your photos. I did get excited about them. Not that I am a fan, but just the idea of them all in one spot. The rest of the photos are fantastic too. Glad you enjoyed Northland.
