Savage Club

I have to say that moving to a country of the British Empire has opened my eyes to many things that were not a part of American culture. If you have some time to kill, click here for my other blog and find 'cultural differences' in the sidebar.

One of the many things that I've notice here and there are signs for 'Savage Club'--mostly on repurposed churches or houses. Hubby recently pointed out one in a nearby town and I finally got around to checking them out. The truth about the Savage Club came as quite a surprise--definitely not what I expected because the first thing I thought of  was 'Fight Club.'

It seems that there are many mild, artistic souls that wanted a place to gather for fellowship and support that started over 150 years ago. You can click here for more information and history.

I had an uncle in the Savage Club and never really knew what it was about so I was very interested to read this post. Many thanks.

That is so funny and so interesting to know ... I would have thought it was an interesting oxymoron to have a savage club meeting in a church! It sounds as if they and the orphans have a lot of harmless fun at their get together soon instead of what I was thinking!

"savage" club is certainly an interesting name. I had never heard of it before.
