roadside beauty

On our way home from a fantastic holiday, we stopped at a rest stop for a cuppa. I wandered around and found these. I assumed they are what's left of some flowers but I found them quite intriguing.

*edit* Thanks for all the ID's of 'Old Man's Beard'.  Hubby was the first to let me know its name, that it's a variety of clematis and that it is an invasive weed here that the government is trying to eradicate.

Those are intriguing. They look like a spider lily, but these stems are straighter after the bloom fades.

They look rather like something which we call Old Man's Beard, though I think that name is used by a lot of other plants in various parts of the world.

I wondered if it was 'old mans beard' as well, very pretty but noxious in N.Z.

that's so interesting, I would have never though of Clematis as an invasive weed. They are super cool looking.
