animal encounters

This is a wild ruru (native owl also called morepork) that Hubby captured at Owlcatraz. You can read more about that park on my other blog by clicking here. It was quite exciting to see since we can hear them at night but have never seen one.

The cockatoo is Joey, greeter at Owlcatraz. I don't know what kind of birds these little guys are--they were at Owlcatraz, too.
The peacocks were part of a larger wild bunch on the side of the road.

They are all great bird shots. I can't imagine peacocks along the road. We only see them in zoos and captivity.

love the photos. apparently peacocks are classed as a pest which is a pity because they're so pretty.

"Owlcatraz" is a wonderful name but I hope the inmates are not so desperate to escape. The Ruru certainly looks very contented in its surroundings. A nice collage of shots too.

Doing it's best not to be seen yet (tucking the beak and closing the eyes makes the world go away. I know. I tried it...

The unnamed look to be a form of finch (or maybe a bunting type), but not one I am familiar with. Maybe Owlcatraz wardens weren't either, if no name plate provided! YAM xx

Are there cockatoos living in the wild of NZ as well? We here in Germany only know them from zoos or bird cages... ;-(
Enjoy a great new week,
